In his review Dave talks about why he believes "the Garmin tactix 7 is an absolute beast of a watch that does just about everything and represents basically the most technology you can cram into a wearable on your wrist ..."

But there's a caveat: It's probably overkill for the vast majority of people.

Why is this his opinion?

Because the Garmin tactix 7 tactical watch is basically a fēnix 7X with some added specialized features that are suited for people in the military, law enforcement, hunters, first responders, pilots—basically, those who need an extremely durable watch with quick access to specific tactical features.

That being said, we are seeing a lot of folks opting for the tactix 7 (you can see some for yourself in the comments below Dave's YouTube video) for the superior look, quality, and design features.

So what do you need to know up front about the Garmin tactix 7?

First of all, you need to know it will cost you about a grand or more.

The tactix 7 Standard model features a 1.4" touchscreen display with Sapphire glass along with traditional 5-button operation—and will cost you $1,099.99.

That price will get you all the tactical features, multi-band GNSS, flashlight, extensive topo maps—plus the full suite of Garmin training, health, and smart features that you would get on a fēnix 7X. Unlike the fēnix 7X, this tactix 7 base model does not have solar-charging technology (more on that later).

The tactix 7 Pro Solar offers everything the Stadard model does while adding solar charging technology, featuring a Power Sapphire lens—for $1,299.99.

The tactix 7 Pro Solar with Ballistics includes an Applied Ballistics® calculator for shooting solutions and compatibility with the AB Synapse™ – Garmin app on your compatible smartphone. This beast goes for $1,599.99.

If you were hoping when the Garmin fēnix 7X dropped in early 2022 that it would include a model without solar-charging, you'll be happy to know that the tactix 7 does have a Standard model sans solar.

But the fēnix 7X comes in a Solar and Sapphire Solar model only. No non-solar model like with the fēnix 7/7S.

This means that the watch face will have that solar cell around the perimeter where the watch, which captures the most sunlight. Some find the ring aesthecically displeasing—especially if they didn't want solar-charging in the first place.

The tactix 7 Standard model—without solar-technology—is one solution to this problem. However, it is a solution that comes with a $200 premium.

In Dave's Garmin tactix 7 review, you'll see in the unboxing that he received both a black nylon band on the watch plus a black silicone watch band—which he thought was very cool.

It should be noted that he received the tactix 7 Pro Solar in order to do his review. Therefore, if you buy the Garmin tactix 7 Pro Solar or Pro Solar with Ballistics, you will get both a black nylon band already on watch plus a black silicone band in the box.

If you purchase a Garmin tactix 7 Standard model, you will only get a black silicone watch strap.

According to Dave, the Garmin fēnix 7X and the tactix 7 "bear a striking resemblance."

However, there are some notable differences with the tactix 7 that users may find more appealing.

The bezel has a machined flat finish and is ridgeless, but with markers around the perimeter. From the profile, you can see that it has no contour or bevel to it at all.

Also, unlike the fēnix 7X, the tactix 7 has knurled buttons that give it a more premium texture and feel.

Overall, the tactix 7 has minimalistic design with an eye-catching DLC-coating finish that really makes it stand out from other Garmin watches.

To help guide your way in low-light conditions, both the fēnix 7X and the tactix 7 come with a built-in multi-LED flashlight.

But the tactix 7 is the only one that has a green LED along with the white LED.

The green light is useful in maintaining your eyes’ natural night vision.
