The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 in the PlayBetter SimStudio™

FlightScope Mevo Gen2 Space Requirements - How Much Space Do You Need? [Home Golf Simulator Guide - Full Indoor/Outdoor Specs]

Before you pull the trigger on the new FlightScope Mevo Gen2, make sure it fits your setup. Here’s exactly how much space you’ll need to get accurate results indoors or out.

The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 has landed, and it’s immediately changing the conversation in the under-$2,000 launch monitor market.

At $1,199, you’re getting the same Fusion Tracking engine that powered the Mevo+ and even the X3C. You’re getting 18 measured ball and club parameters, video with shot tracer overlays, built-in simulator play, and no subscriptions.

But as with all radar-based launch monitors, there’s a catch.

It’s not about the data. It’s not about the simulator software. It’s about space.

Because radar needs depth. And if you don’t have a long enough room, it doesn’t matter how good the launch monitor is. You’re not going to get accurate results.

So before you jump on what is easily one of the more compelling recent launches, let’s make sure you’ve actually got the room for it.

How Much Indoor Space Do You Need for a FlightScope Mevo Gen2 Golf Simulator?

The Mevo Gen2 tracks shots using Doppler radar paired with synchronized image processing. And just like the outgoing Mevo+, it has to sit 8 feet directly behind the golf ball to measure accurately.

On top of that, you need additional space in front of the ball so the radar can track ball flight. The absolute minimum is 8 feet between your ball and impact screen or hitting net, but FlightScope recommends 13 feet for the most precise spin and shot shape readings.

Add it all together, and here are our room-size recommendations for comfortably using the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 indoors:

  • 10 feet wide
  • 21 feet deep
  • 9 feet tall

The depth number is the big one. You can squeeze it down to about 16 feet if you absolutely must, but you run the risk of sacrificing some accuracy. For the best results, plan for the full 21 feet.

As for width and height, these are fairly standard requirements. You need enough room to swing your longest club without risk of hitting walls or ceilings. Taller golfers may need more than 9 feet of ceiling height, while shorter players may get away with less. The best test is to swing your driver slowly in the space you’re considering and make sure you’re not coming close to clipping walls or the ceiling.

If you’ve got the room, the Mevo Gen2 is an outstanding fit for an indoor simulator. If you don’t, a camera-based unit like the SkyTrak+, Uneekor Eye Mini Lite, or Bushnell LPi will be much easier to set up in tighter spaces.

Radar or Camera? Which Is Best for an Indoor Golf Simulator?

The radar-versus-camera tradeoff is really clear when it comes to space.

Radar systems like the Mevo Gen2, Mevo+, Garmin Approach R10, and Rapsodo MLM2PRO need depth. They track the golf ball after it leaves the clubface, which means they need 8 feet behind the ball and 8 to 13 feet in front of it.

Camera-based launch monitors like the SkyTrak+, Bushnell Launch Pro, and Square sit next to the ball and capture data right at impact. That means they only require enough room to swing comfortably — about 10 feet of depth total, rather than 16 to 21 for radar.

So if you’re building a simulator in a tight garage or basement, camera units have a real edge.

But radar has its own advantage: righty/lefty flexibility.

With the Mevo Gen2, you can seamlessly host simulator sessions with both right-handed and left-handed players without moving the unit. With a side-mounted camera-based device, you’d have to switch the monitor from one side of the hitting area to the other every time you changed players. That’s a rhythm killer.

So here’s the bottom line:

  • Tight on space? Go camera.
  • Enough depth and want right/lefty flexibility? Radar is the way.

Is the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 a Good Indoor Golf Simulator Option?

Space permitting, absolutely.

The Mevo Gen2 gives you the same tracking accuracy as the Mevo+, but at a much lower price point. Out of the box, you get:

  • 18 measured ball and club metrics
  • Lifetime access to eight real-world E6 Connect courses
  • Shot tracer with video and data overlay
  • No subscription required
  • Six-hour battery life with USB-C charging
  • Full compatibility with GSPro, TGC 2019 (new version coming 2026), Awesome Golf, Creative Golf, and more

And you’re getting it for $1,199, a huge savings compared to the Mevo+, which is being phased out at $2,299.

The only real caveat is that the Gen2 doesn’t currently support advanced add-ons like the Pro Package or Face Impact Location. If you’re a coach, a fitter, or a super-data-hungry player, you may still want the Mevo+ while inventory lasts. But for everyone else, the Gen2 is the smarter buy.

So yes, as long as you’ve got at least 16 to 21 feet of depth to work with, the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 is one of the best indoor golf simulator options under $2,000.

Get out the tape measure and make sure you’ve got the room. If you do, this radar-based powerhouse will do the job right.

If you measure your space and come up short on depth, don’t panic. There are excellent alternatives. The SkyTrak+, Bushnell Launch Pro, Square, Uneekor Eye Mini Lite, and Bushnell LPi are just some of the camera-based options in the price ballpark of the Mevo Gen2.

You’ll lose the radar advantage of seamless right/lefty play, but you’ll still get highly accurate indoor numbers and, in the case of the Square, an incredibly affordable entry point.
