How Can Club Data on a SkyTrak Plus Launch Monitor Help Your Game?

When you have both ball and club data, you’ve got everything you need to know about how to improve your swing. Here’s how GolfTEC resident expert and Golf Digest’s #22 instructor Nick Clearwater explains the game-changing importance of knowing your club data:

Club Path is the direction the club head is moving relative to the target line. This has a major influence on the curve and Side Spin of your shots. An in-to-out path of around 4 degrees is suggested as a starting point for hitting high draws that end up in the fairway or next to the flag.

PRO TIP: Having a strong understanding of the relationship between Face to Path and Face to Target is the first step in eliminating nasty slices and hooks!

Face to Path is the biggest factor in determining which direction your shot curves, as well as how much. It's the difference between Face Angle and Club Path. Mastering a consistent relationship of Face to Path is a major milestone for improving your game.

Face to Target is the direction the club face is pointed to the right or the left of the target at impact. It's most responsible for the Side Angle of your shots. To hit a draw, you want the Face to Target open to curve toward the target. The opposite holds true for hitting fades.

Smash Factor is a ratio that defines how effectively energy is transferred from the club into the ball. The formula is Ball Speed divided by Clubhead Speed. The higher the Smash Factor, the more effective the energy transfer was.

What is the difference between SkyTrak and SkyTrak+?

The SkyTrak+ offers: virtually no delay after your shot; Club Data, including Club Head Speed, Smash Factor, Club Path and Face Angle—including Face to Path and Face to Target; dual-doppler radar technology as well as photometric; new shot optimizer interface; no stickers on balls or clubs needed!

Does SkyTrak Plus require a subscription?

For free you will have access to you shot data history and the simple driving range—plus you can use it as a standalone launch monitor. To get game-improvement software and simulation you will need to purchase a subscription package (see options below).

What does the SkyTrak Plus measure?

Ball Speed, Launch Angle, Backspin, Side Spin, Side Angle, Carry Distance, Roll Out and Total Distance, Distance Offline, Clubhead Speed, Angle of Descent, 3D Flight Path, Smash Factor, Club Path, Face Angle, Face to Path, and Face to Target.

How accurate is SkyTrak Plus club data?

PlayBetter golf reviewer tested the SkyTrak+ against the GC3 and said, "I gotta say, the SkyTrak+ scored quite well on the exam." He found ball speed and swing speed to be dead on. However, there was some slight inconsistency with spin and club path numbers compared to the more expensive GC3.

Can you use the SkyTrak+ outside?

Yes, it works great indoors and outdoors. However, if you are using it outdoors, you must use it off a golf mat for consistent, accurate numbers.

Where do you put the ball with a SkyTrak Plus launch monitor?

Once your SkyTrak+ is successfully connected and registered, all three LEDs will turn green and you will see a red laser dot projected onto your hitting surface. For best results, place the ball directly on the red dot although you can place it within 2-3 inches of it and still works.
