Garmin Approach R10 Setup & Space Requirements

The Garmin R10 unit sits 6-8' behind the ball. When hitting into a net or impact screen, it needs at least 8'+ of space in front for ball flight measurements—but the more, the better.

That means at the minimum 14' of of room depth. You will also want at least 10' of width, and if your golf setup is indoors, we recommend at least 9' minimum of ceiling height—for comfortable, stress-free swinging.

Other important setup tips, include:

  • When using a golf mat, the Garmin R10 should be on the same level.
  • The red alignment line on the device should be aligned with the tee location and the target of the shot. A golf club can be used between the alignment line and tee location to confirm they are lined up.
  • The Approach R10 only works through the Garmin Golf app, which needs to be downloaded onto your mobile device.
  • When using third-party software like E6 Connect or TGC 2019 that can be used on a PC, you'll connect to the software through the Garmin Golf app.

Can you use the Garmin R10 as a golf simulator?

Yes! You can play Garmin's Home Tee Hero and third-party simulation including, E6 Connect, Awesome Golf, TGC 2019, and Creative Golf.

Does the Garmin R10 show shot shape?

Yes, you will be able to see your shot shape through the Garmin Golf app.

Does the Garmin Approach R10 require a subscription?

There's a lot you can do for free with the Garmin Golf app (see below). But if you want virtual rounds on Home Tee Hero on 42,000+ courses, Green Contour data, and the ability to store video clips of your shots in the cloud—the answer is you need a premium subscription. Good news, though, the cost is only $9.99/month or save a little for $99.99/year!

Does the Garmin R10 Measure Putting?

This super-affordable golf gadget does not measure putting during simulation—no launch monitor at this price does yet. You'll have to check out one of our more expensive units, like the Bushnell Launch Pro or FlightScope Mevo+, if that's a must-have.

Can I use foam balls with the Approach R10 launch monitor?

You cannot use foam balls with the Approach R10; you must use regular golf balls.

With the purchase of the Approach R10 launch monitor you can unlock the Garmin Golf Simulator. This allows you to simulate a driving range and play virtual courses in Home Tee Hero.*

Your mobile device can be mirrored or casted to smart TVs. This method of viewing the Garmin Golf app, in some cases, may not be ideal since the display resolutions on phones will be different than most projection screens or TVs, but the following support articles provide information on how to wirelessly mirror your phone's display to a compatible device:
